Crown Royal

Crown Royal • this painting is sold

Well, my latest sad fortune is that now I'm afflicted with laryngitis. Now normally that wouldn't be so bad because at times it's nice to be still and quiet .... EXCEPT for the fact that I now am standing at Christkindlmarkt over 10 hours a day and hoping to sell my paintings and prints ... and it's hard selling your wares when you are unable to speak. I'm hoping for the 'pity' sale. "Ahhhh .... this poor girl can't even speak ... let's buy everything she has!!". Long shot I know.

So, I stand there and paint and make hand gestures and suck on cough drops. This isn't exactly the artists' glamour life. I keep telling Mr. Martini and Ms. Manhattan "get out there and make some money so I don't have to worry!!" Of course, no wonder they're not listening ... I forgot to paint ears on them.

Pancakes with M&M's

Pancakes with M&M's • this painting is sold

Today was the first day that I ever made pancakes. At least I don't recall making them in the past. I'm more of an egg and scrapple with pumpernickel toast eater .. that is, if I eat breakfast at all. But, I received a request for these, so I gave it my best shot.

I think the trick is to make sure that the griddle is at the correct temperature ... or you could have quite the time trying to 'slide' the pancake on the spatula to flip. By the time the fourth pancake was cooking, I think I had the knack down pat. I didn't eat them, but seven hours after making the pancakes, I set up the 'still life' and painted them. Trust me, they look better on canvas.

Peanut M&Ms

Peanut M&Ms • this painting is sold

Made of whole peanuts covered with milk chocolate, inside colorful sugar shells, M&M'S® Peanut Chocolate Candies made their debut in 1954. They were originally all brown, but in 1960 three new colors—red, green and yellow—were added to the color mix, and these were later joined by orange in 1976.

Christmas Balls

Christmas Balls • this painting is sold

This is the first painting that I painted at Christkindlmarkt. Currently, they have me in a tiny space with little room for 'models' so these balls were the only thing that would fit on the aluminum easel. I'm hoping to get a bigger space where I can really display my cocktail prints, aprons and various Painting Each Day paintings.

Yesterday, a friend of my Mother's (they graduated from high school together) came over to tell me how truly nice and wonderful my Mother was. She started to cry and then hugged me. Isn't it so hard to lose a friend, a loved one, a Mother. It's so difficult when life just isn't the same any longer and your connection to the past and the world as you know it is gone. What you wouldn't do to have one more day together. Just one more day.

Perrier Jouet

Perrier Jouet

Well, this just happens to be my favorite champagne. Several years ago when I worked for the AARP Medicare Supplement provider, they needed to 'Right' size (as opposed to 'down' size). Well, the position that I held for 11 years was eliminated. It was my chance to seize the life that I really wanted to live. The quest to become a full-time living and working artist.

So, to celebrate, I visited the Wine and Spirits Shoppe and bought the extra large bottle of Perrier Jouet nestled in the satin lined hard box complete with four hand-painted glasses. Oh, and then I also bought the Perrier Jouet Rosé bottle nestled in the satin lined hard box complete with two hand-painted glasses.

My then boyfriend, my brother Jim and his (our) girlfriend Diana and I drank the Perrier Jouet on Christmas morning many Christmas mornings ago. It was wonderful ....

There's nothin' like splurging when you lose your job and have no employment prospects!!! Cheers!

Boston Red Sox Baseball 6

Boston Red Sox Baseball 6 • this painting is sold

Ouch! OUCH! Well, I received three, maybe four, needles in my mouth today. All on the lower left quadrant. I'm having my teeth scaled and not only is it a painful process, but there are drill sounds and saliva spray and a suction hose hanging from my mouth. Oh my gosh .... I don't know if the extremely long needles of anesthesia are more painful or the high volume drilling under my gums ... the drilling is so intense that the drill even slows down from work and grinding overload.

Four hours later the anesthesia is starting to wear off and now the throbbing pain begins. Actually, it's not quite as bad as it seems. The low cost for having all of this dental work done by aspiring dental hygienists is worth it. Everything is supervised by very strict hygienists and very strict guidelines. Actually, I'm certain that these dental hygienists are even MORE thorough because their passing or failing grade is dependent upon their expertise.

So .... after four hours sitting in the dentist chair this morning, my friend and dental hygienist PASSED her exam. Thank GOD for that. I don't think that I could take any more needle injections and intense drilling pain for today. But, three more quadrants to finish and I'm good to go. Ouch ....

Unbelievable. My Father is now in the hospital. We certainly are having the saddest year. The very unbelievable coincidence is that my Father is in the exact room, exact same bed that my Mother was in when she was hospitalized. 700 hospital beds and he's in the exact same one.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars

Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLEN !!

Well, hmmm .... what to paint today. I didn't have any 'models', so I took off my Chucks and created a painting of them. I wear them everyday and I just love them! I used to have several pair - all sort of colors - and I wore them all of the time. Throughout Paris and Provence, all day, all night.

But, I will say that Converse must have redesigned the instep because they are so much more comfortable today than years ago.

And, my new pair is black and pink. Really cute. Oddly enough, I couldn't find this style on the Converse website. That's ok. Now I don't have to worry about attending a gala and finding someone else wearing the same sneaks!

Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut 'Split'

Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut 'Split'

Cordon Negro Brut is Freixenet’s most popular cava, often referred to as the “Black Bottle Bubbly.” It is the #1 imported sparkling wine in the world.

Tasting Notes

Cordon Negro Brut is crisp, clean and well balanced. The dosage is very dry, but the acidity is lower than most champagnes for a softer, smoother flavor. It is medium-bodied with a moderately long and clean finish.

Winemaking

Freixenet produces only méthode champenoise sparkling wines. The wine goes through two fermentations with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. Cordon Negro is aged for up to eighteen months in a cave.

Acclaim

90 POINTS
“Apple-citrus aromas, light as a breeze, lead into the clear, bright citrus flavors of this well-made Cava. It's full of tangerine, lemon and lemon pith character, with a sparkly acidity and dry vivaciousness that would accompany shellfish.”
-Wine & Spirits, August 2003

Rosebud Egg • Fabergé Egg • The Imperial Eggs

Rosebud Egg • this painting is sold

Its whereabouts unknown for decades, the Rosebud Egg was the first to be presented by Czar Nicholas II to his Czarina. A miniature of Czar Nicholas II surmounts the egg, and the year is set in the base beneath a diamond. Fabergé trimmed the strawberry red Rosebud egg (1895) with a diamond Cupid's arrow. The surprise inside was a hinged, enameled golden yellow rosebud, another symbol of the couple's love for one another. For the homesick young girl, the egg was also a reminder of her native country of Germany, where the golden yellow rose is the most prized color. Inside the rosebud was a a ruby egg pendant and a tiny diamond-set Imperial crown, representing Alexandra's new life as the Empress of Russia.

Like the almost identical crown and pendant of the first imperial egg, these two surprises were separated from the egg before it was sold by the Soviet government in the 1920s. Their present whereabouts are unknown.

Provenance: The first Fabergé Egg presented by Czar Nicholas II to his wife, Czarina Alexandra Feodorovna, Easter 1895.

Exhibition at TC Salon Spa • Bethlehem, PA

I just got home and although it's still before 7:00 p.m., it's totally dark outside. We turned the clocks back at 2:00 a.m. this morning. Returning to standard time once again.

Today I hung my exhibition at TC Salon Spa in Bethlehem, PA. I have 72 paintings on exhibition. It's such a beautiful place and I'm so happy to exhibit my paintings there each year. If you're strolling throughout historic Bethlehem, why not stop by and take a look.

First Friday was wonderful!!! So many new and old friends. I was celebrating my second First Friday in my new incredible studio so I splurged and served Tröegs HopBack Amber Ale. ... oh, and a lovely bottle of Cabernet. it was a great night. The weather was pretty much perfect and people were entering my studio by the droves. Next month when we celebrate our 'Banana Factory Artists' Annual Exhibition' I'll take some photographs so you can see what I'm so excited about.

And, if you haven't been to one of South Bethlehem's First Fridays, why not make a point of attending in December. It promises to be a great time ... and I'll be serving Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale ... oh, and a lovely bottle of Cabernet.

Deviled Ham

Deviled Ham • this painting is sold

My Mother's Mother, 'Nana', would make sandwiches with Deviled Ham spread. She also served olive loaf which I, as a youngster, was midly repulsed by it. However, in retrospect, olive loaf and ham spread were probably even a little 'gourmet' for the time. Now I'd probably enjoy it and even serve it myself!

I miss those days. When our Grandparents were around. I miss all of the family picnics. I miss my Mom telling funny stories, baking pies, sending cards, giving us a little spank and pulling our ears on our birthday. I miss her being cute with my Dad.

What I wouldn't do to be able to sit down and share a Deviled Ham sandwich with her right now.

Mary Jane Candy

Mary Jane Candy

In 1884, Charles H. Miller and his three sons founded a small business manufacturing and selling homemade candy. The building where they began making their candy had a notable past -- it was the Paul Revere House in Boston's Faneuil Hall/North End area. (Revere, who in 1775 made the ride from Boston to Lexington alerting the countryside that the British were coming, lived in the house with his family until 1800.)

After their father’s death, the Miller boys split the responsibilities of the family business. Charles N. Miller took charge of the manufacturing and wholesale operations while his brothers ran the retail store. In 1914, after a fairly successful business was established and the Charles N. Miller Company was one of some reputation, they began manufacturing Mary Janes. The molasses and peanut butter candy was named for their favorite aunt, Mary Jane.

The Miller Company tried several variations of the legendary Mary Jane mixture, but none could compare with the original.
