I now am the proud-yet-timid owner of a PC HP Laptop in addition to my beautiful and amazing G5 20" flat screen - And I am writing to you from my Parents' home. I pride myself on having had ONLY Apple computers since the early '90s ... and quite frankly I am a bit of an APPLE elitist ... so purchasing a PC Laptop was a bit of a risk for me .... I know NOTHING about PCs ... am scared of viruses ... and absolutely LOVE the APPLE logo. But, WHO can afford an APPLE Laptop??? (forgive me Mr. Jobs). I now have on my PC 4G of Ram and 250G of harddrive --- and I took a risk and bought it on eBay. BUT, so far, so good. Now I have to purchase the new Suite - are we already up to CS4? - for my PC. Ugh ... more bills.

This laptop is the first acquisition for my three month working residency in beautiful Antibes, France. So, hopefully, by the time that I leave I will be PC savvy.

I've already spent a day playing Amazing Adventures ... but, I've cracked the code and opened up the Egyptian tomb to claim the treasure. It was an exciting way to waste a whole day.

So ... if you have any tips, concerns, suggestions about using my new PC, just drop me a line. And, if you're Mr. Steve Jobs and offer me a beautiful Mac Laptop to take to France, I will gladly donate my new PC to a worthy cause.

Onion Confit

Onion Confit

One of my favorite delicacies in Provence Alpes Maratimes is the delicious 'Onion Confit'. It's essentially a collection of slow cooked sweet onions, garlic, thyme, Provencal black olives cured in extra virgin olive oil carefully ladled over bread and then baked. I also add some sun dried tomatoes also cured in olive oil. Bake it in the oven until the bread has a nice crunch and the flavors blend.

It's a real treat that goes a long way. Try it with a chilled Chardonnay or even a rich Pinot Noir.

Villa Fontaine

Ahhh .... well, I'm happy to tell you that I have been invited to work and live in the beautiful Villa Fontaine in the French Riviera for three glorious months!!!! It's an ancient villa with two stories, a gated tiled porch and a bedroom with shutters overlooking the blue Mediterranean. It's a working residency ... so I am there to create paintings. One worry .... am I worthy?

Of course, this means I have to sell, sell, sell to have adequate moolah to cover my expenses ... so, if you go to my comprehensive website ...

Junior Mints

Junior Mints are a candy consisting of small rounds of mint filling inside a dark chocolate coating. Currently produced by Tootsie Roll Industries, the product is packaged in varying amounts from the fun-size box to the much larger 12.0 oz. box. Junior Mints were introduced in 1949 by the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based James O. Welch Company, manufacturers of candies and candy bars such as Sugar Babies, Welch's Fudge, Pom Poms and Milk Duds. Born in Hertford, North Carolina, Welch attended the University of North Carolina and then founded his Cambridge candy company in 1927.

The name of the product is a pun on Sally Benson's Junior Miss, a collection of her stories from The New Yorker, which were adapted by Jerome Chodorov and Joseph Fields into a successful play. Directed by Moss Hart, Junior Miss ran on Broadway from 1941 to 1943. According to the official company history, when James Welch developed and launched the product in 1949, he named the candy after his favorite Broadway show. Yet the candy came six years after the play had closed on Broadway.
