Schwaebisch Gmuend ... interviewing, stretching canvas and painting ...
Last evening, we had a 'terrific storm' as my Mother would have said ... but today, it is cool and beautiful - blue skies and puffy clouds. I began my morning as usual, checking email, blogging, reading the news ... and after a cup of wonderful coffee in the workshop, I headed to the Gmuender Tagespost to see my friend Michael Laenge. He's the editor of the newspaper and we have been friends for eight years now. He's interesting, thoughtful and kind and we've shared some great laughs together. His wife Barbara is also sweet and thoughtful - a wonderful couple !!
Michael wanted to write a little story on my new paintings celebrating the birthday parades of Schwaebisch Gmuend AND also the fact that I will be painting in the Market place tomorrow during the parade of the 80s.
Second stop: Bilderbogen. Here is Reinhard hard at work stretching three more canvases for me. They will total nine in all. He is very kind to accomodate me ... AND ... also to mat and frame my cocktail prints and feature them in his window. Vielen Dank mein Freund Reinhard and you too Sylvia !!!
Here is the beginning of painting number four. He is from the 50s day. I will focus on painting something from each of the parades ... 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. It certainly has been very joyous for me painting in this lovely space, listening to 'Chocolat' non-stop, having a glass of vin rouge, eating yummy German pretzels ... 'Nix Besser' my Dad would have said !!
50s Parade - detail ... of course, only started ...
Here are the four so far ... I think they look nice together ... like friends. Now, I have to focus on painting a lovely birthday woman ... maybe in her dirndl !!
Tomorrow is the final parade for the year ... the parade of the 80s. My friend Conrad has offered to help me lug my painting gear to the market place ... and I'd like to be set up around 8:15 or so. I have a feeling that it is going to be a great day !!! It's difficult to describe the feeling of 'outpouring of love and happiness' during the parade ... it's joyful. There are bouquets of flowers, champagne, tuxedos, bands, Oberburgermeister, the train, fancy cars ... and music ... LOTS of music !! It certainly is something special to experience ... and I am SO happy that I have had that privilege.
Thank YOU so much my lovely friends from Schwaebisch Gmuend !!!! xoxoxo
